LA Metro Improves Storage Safety and Efficiency With VLMs
Government agency meets U.S.-made contract requirement by selecting Modula VLM to meet storage safety and efficiency needs.
Metro, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, is the transportation planner, designer, builder and operator of the Los Angeles County’s transportation system. Los Angeles is one of the country’s largest, most populated counties with over 93 stations and 169km of service.
Problem
Metro was constantly expanding facilities to meet operational support needs of its rail system. With an eye to the future, they were looking for an automated storage solution that would help them keep the right amount of parts, at the right location while allowing for expansion. Funding requirements meant their solution had to be made in the USA.
Solution
Thanks to the installation of an MX50, more than 50 square meter of parts inventory is now stored in only 9 square meter.
Picking accuracy and speed has drastically increased, allowing a faster processing of sales and service orders. The right amount of parts are at the right location when they are needed. This reduced movement of goods and the potential cost of damages during transportation. Included features, such as security light curtains that halt movement if interrupted, improve worker safety.
