Manifatture Del Nord, Women’s apparel manufacturer

Manifatture Del Nord was founded in 1986 in Reggio Emilia, Italy, as part of the prestigious Max Mara fashion group, specializes in designing and manufacturing women’s apparel.

Problem

Manifatture-Del-Nord’s raw materials warehouse is used to store fabrics and accessories. Before Modula, operators had to search the rack for the materials customer’s needed in the order. Due to the variety and small size of garment components, the picking process is very time consuming and often requires operators to bend or stand for long periods of time.

Manifatture del Nord needed a new solution to manage its raw materials warehouses and improve picking speed and accuracy.

Solution

7 modula VLMs store 90% of the inventory, creating a cleaner and tidier working environment. Picking speed has also improved significantly, with 23 order lines per hour and 900 order lines per day, while saving over 95% of floor space.

With Modula, operators can transfer orders to the Modula VLMs via WMS software. The Modula VLMs automatically present the picking materials in the order to the operator at an ergonomic height and then use a barcode reader to identify the materials. The label printer generates labels and attaches them to the boxes ready for shipping, greatly simplifying the entire picking and shipping process.

Carmella S., an Modula operator who has been working at the company since 2000, said: “Before that we had to look for things on pallets, whereas now they’re stored in trays which bring down everything you need. It’s better now with seven modula units rather than just three and we can pick almost everything from the machines, there’s hardly anything outside the anymore. It’s much more convenient and much quicker, and everything is tidier. By entering the list into the computer, the trays move down which is less tiring than picking things off pallets. Where before you had to bend down and stand back up several times a day.”
